Adoption Circle - January '25 Newsletter

Happy 2025!  Ringing in a New Year, and hoping it brings happiness and health to all!  Oh, I almost forgot O-H!  Congratulations to The National Champions, THE Ohio State Buckeyes! As we rang in the New Year, the Polar Vortex brought in the bitter cold weather.  Let’s just hope Punxsutawney Phil was wrong and Spring and warmer weather will be here soon, and to stay!

As we all brought in the New Year 1/1/25, the first day of the Lunar New Year was 1/29/25. The Lunar New Year is a 15-day festival that marks the first new moon of the Lunar calendar.  It is a major celebration in China and Chinese communities around the world.  The year 2025 is the year of the Snake, which is associated with intelligence, resilience, and love. The snake is a wood animal, which represents growth, flexibility and tolerance.

1/20/25 we recognized Martin Luther King Jr. Day (MLK).  MLK  Day honors the civil rights leader and activist.  The holiday serves as a time for reflection, community service, and the celebration of Dr. King’s contributions to the civil rights movement.  It’s a time to take the opportunity to reflect on the ongoing struggle for civil rights and injustice.  Especially now, Adoption Circle honors Dr. King’s mission of inclusion, equity, peace and unity!

Even though January was cold outside, our hearts were warmed by the finalizations and placements.  Adoption Circle continues to be honored to be able to work with so many adoptive families and birthmothers and to unite children with their forever families.

A NOTE FROM THE BIRTH PARENT SERVICES DIRECTOR………..

As prospective adoptive parents start the adoption journey, there are many unanswered questions they will have.  Will an expectant mother choose me? Will I meet with an expectant mother?  Will I be liked?  What future role will a birthmother play in my life?  With all the questions prospective adoptive parents may have, the most important thing prospective adoptive parents must remember is that until the expectant mother signs the surrender paperwork, the baby still hers.  An expectant mother is not a birthmother, until she places her child for adoption with the adoptive parents she chose to parent her child.  The following article outlines ways to have consideration and empathy for the expectant mother.  Things prospective adoptive parents should consider: Respect her and the circumstances that made her seek out adoption, It doesn’t matter that you might be more prepared to parent this child, Try and empathize and understand the circumstances that brought her here, If she chooses to place with you, she will be an important part of your life forever; Please read the following article to learn more about Empathy and Care for Expectant Mothers.
