Are we sure it’s November? These lovely mild temperatures, and sometimes 80 degree days, are reminiscent of the beginning of summer instead of the middle of Autumn. But we shall not complain. We love the mild temperatures and all the events that took place in October. Enjoy reading about October, the month in review.
World Mental Health Day
World Mental Health Day occurred in October. It is an international day for global mental health education, awareness and advocacy against social stigma. World Mental Health Day was first celebrated in 1992 at the initiative of the World Federation for Mental Health, a global mental health organization with members and contacts in more than 150 countries. This day, each October, thousands of supporters come to celebrate this annual awareness program to bring attention to mental illness and its major effects on people's lives worldwide. In addition, this day provides an opportunity for mental health professionals to discuss and shed light on their work, making mental health a priority worldwide.
To recognize the importance of mental health, this link shares 10 simple yet impactful ways one can take action to promote and protect mental wellbeing today and every day.
Remember to manage your mental health. Take mental health breaks, practice self care and recognize self-care. If needed, access resources to help manage your mental health. You can log onto the website for tips and resources.
Pregnancy and Infant Loss Awareness
October was also Pregnancy and Infant Loss Awareness Month. Miscarriages, stillbirths, and other conditions can cause a pregnancy to end before or during birth. Infant death can be caused by preterm birth, birth defects, and other health conditions. Ohio ranks 41st worst of all 50 states and DC. All Ohioans are not impacted equally. Those living in rural or Appalachian areas often have a more difficulty in accessing prenatal care or well-child visits compared to those who have more access to healthcare. Data also shows staggering racial disparities in pregnancy and infant health outcomes, as Black babies under the age of one are dying at nearly 3 times the rate of White babies in Ohio. Groundwork Ohio offers support for those who have experienced, or support those who have experienced Pregnancy or Infant Loss. Resources include Postpartum Support , Bereaved Parents , Share Pregnancy and Infant Loss Support, and Compassionate Friends (support group). March of Dimes is also a resource for Pregnancy and Infant Loss.
Breast Cancer Awareness Month
Wear It Pink Day was October 18, 2024. This annual event invites people to wear pink clothing or accessories to show their support for Breast Cancer Awareness and Research. This vibrant and positive campaign aims to raise awareness about breast cancer, encourage early detection, and raise funds for breast cancer research and support services. Wear It Pink Day is an opportunity for individuals, schools, workplaces, and communities to unite in a colorful display of solidarity and commitment to ending breast cancer. Our staff enjoyed joining in the “Wear Pink Day” to bring awareness to breast cancer. Please log on to Susan G Komen for more information and support resources.
Halloween
Well 10/31/24 was Halloween. We always love seeing our little ones dressed up and enjoying the holiday. Thanks all for sharing your photos on Facebook
Annual Picnic
October 26th was a wonderful day. It was our annual picnic and the weather was awesome. We all enjoyed seeing our adoptive families, and loved seeing all the little ones (and big ones 😊) dressed up and enjoying the Halloween themed picnic. The kids enjoyed playing on the playground, cookie decorating, face painting, bubbles and trunk or treat. Fun was had by all and looking forward to next year’s picnic. A special shout out to our costume winners: washing machine, dryer and clothes basket. Adoption Circle staff joined in on the fun and we were all Care Bears! We had Harmony Care Bear, Always There Care Bear, Care Bear, Good Luck, Tenderheart Care Bear, Togetherness Care Bear, Funshine Care Bear and Hopeful Heart Care Bear.
Looking forward to November and National Adoption Month, Thanksgiving and of course the beginning of the holiday season. Congratulations to all of our families who had placements in October and those families who finalized their adoptions.
